Camp Dreamcatcher 2018

Camp Dreamcatcher celebrated its fourth year serving children currently in or adopted from foster care at Candlelight Ranch! This camp provides children with the opportunity to experience summer camp in a safe and supported setting.  Campers participated in a combination of science, nature activities, ecotherapy and had the opportunity to sleep in the treehouse, make s’mores and experience the wonders of nature all while having fun!

Campers also had a few new exciting opportunities this year! Thanks to Texas Oven Co., for brining homemade dough and their gourmet brick pizza oven for campers to create their own pizza creation. Children picked veggies from our very own Martin Food Forest to create a custom, organically grown & deliciously baked gourmet pizza! Thank you, Texas Oven, Co.

Campers also learned about the history of American Pioneer Dutch Oven cooking methods through creating & enjoying scratch recipes like Apple Pie, Cornbread & Chili.

A new addition to Camp this summer was a visit by astronomer Kevin Hill, or “Fly”, as he’s known in the Astronomical Community. Fly used his awesome telescope to connect campers to the wonders of our universe. Highlights of the evening included Saturn’s rings, star clusters, countless constellations and a few shooting stars!

Campers also enjoyed learning about Central Texas Flora & Fauna through edible and medicinal plant hikes hosted by volunteers of the Highland Lakes Master Naturalists.

Each year at the end of camp, we realize what an impact we make on children through their positive feedback, increased self-esteem, awareness and knowledge of nature.  A special thank you to our volunteers, interns and partners for making this year’s Camp Dreamcatcher unforgettable!
