The Barr family had a dream to provide special needs and at-risk youth the opportunity to experience the peace and magic found in nature. In 1999, Don Barr and his wife, Jeri, along with Don’s brother, Randy Barr, turned their mutual love of children and nature into a mission called Candlelight Ranch.
As a former summer camp counselor it was important to Don in particular to share his love for the outdoors by giving youth outdoor opportunities that instill respect for themselves and for the land.
Jeri helped organize the first Board of Directors and served as President of the Board for five years. She was instrumental in establishing the early programs and reaching out to the first organizations to visit the Ranch. Sadly, Jeri passed away in 2008 from breast cancer, but not before she witnessed the fruits of her labor at the Ranch.
Randy continues to be the leading steward and caretaker of the land and ranch property, spearheading a variety of ranch improvement and construction projects.
Both Don and Randy are very involved with the execution of their original vision for the Ranch.
