This season, the Texas style ranch holiday party felt a unique chill in the air… from the weather! The weather may have been cold, but hearts were warm as the crackling fire place set the tone for this year’s party, filled with holiday activities, therapeutic reprieve, and overall gratitude. With white Christmas lights strung atop the pavilion rafters, the holiday spirit was in the air. Volunteers and kids alike made s’mores and hot chocolate while sharing many laughs by the fire.
Every year it is a Candlelight Ranch tradition to locate and cut down a tree with Co-Founder, Don Barr. After scouring parts of the acreage, and using communication skills and compromise, the children came together and found a perfect tree! With tree decorating and Christmas carols sung happily with glee on a crisp hayride, the ranch was drenched in holiday cheer. Volunteers from the National Charity League also generously donated their time to help families make cookies together and create thoughtful holiday packages for other children in need.
Santa and Mrs. Claus arrived in full garb, with a special suit garnered in unique leather craftsman details preserved over many years. All the children were able to spend some individual time with Santa, sharing a few moments talking about Christmas wishes and other whispers for Santa’s ears only. Shhh… Don’t tell the kids! This year’s Santa helpers were the much loved Ron and Ali Knight. This could not be more fitting with all the gifts bestowed on Candlelight Ranch from these generous two!
I guess we were good this year, because we got the gift of being a part of this magical day!
