“The community that Candlelight Ranch is located with in is near Lake Travis with dry terrain and spaced out mountains with the lake in between. Surrounded by ranches and about a 15 miles out there is a small town which had a CVS, a grass station and a small grocery store. The surroundings were beautiful. It included a rocky hike down to the lake where by I was able to watch the foot sized black fish swim in the still clear water. Above me were eagles so large that you could hear their wings flap as loud as if someone was waving a thick cardboard box next to my ear.
Spending time in the community I was able to appreciate nature and the therapeutic effect it has on a person. A wave of serenity and calmness away from the hustle and bustle that I have become accustom to living in Austin and I am sure many others have too. Being in the community gave me time to stop and self reflect with out the distractions that society places upon me. I was able to think with out the restriction of others judgement. Being in this environment I was able to remind myself of who I am without the pressures that the world places upon me. Reflecting on my goals and aspirations and reminding myself of how far I have come and how far I have to go.
Candlelight Ranch’s goal is to provide “therapeutic and educational natured-based experiences to enrich the lives of at-risk youth and children with disabilities.” This organization goes above and beyond helping those who are there for the visit, but also to the volunteers such as myself. This organization has inspired me in so many ways. I plan on continuing volunteering at Candlelight Rach in the future in order to grow as an individual and help others to grow too.”
Thank you Jenna! Candlelight Ranch appreciates you so much!
