A Heart for Nature, A Heart for Others: Honoring Lynne Claire, Volunteer of the Year
April 4, 2025
Some moments at Candlelight Ranch linger in the heart long after they happen. For Lynne Claire, one memory involved a young girl mourning a fallen spider. Upset that her brother had killed it, the child gently placed the spider in a small hole beneath a tree and whispered, “I hope you find your mom and dad in heaven.” It was a simple yet profound moment that spoke volumes about the deep sense of empathy, connection, and care for nature and for others we strive to inspire in those who visit the Ranch.
Lynne, our Volunteer of the Year, embodies these same values. Her time at the Ranch has been filled with heartwarming encounters, reinforcing her belief in the power of kindness and the healing embrace of nature. She is drawn to Candlelight Ranch because of the incredible children and families it serves and the unwavering positivity that fills the air. Here, judgment is replaced with understanding, challenges are met with patience, and every child is given the freedom to explore, learn, and grow in a space where they feel valued and safe.
For Lynne, witnessing the courage and dedication of caregivers and families is as inspiring as working with the children themselves. She admires the patience and love it takes to support kids with unique challenges. She finds joy in seeing them gain confidence and independence. Through nature-based activities, positive reinforcement, and the encouragement of volunteers like Lynne, children at Candlelight Ranch experience a sense of belonging that strengthens their self-esteem and empowers them to embrace new experiences.
Volunteering at Candlelight Ranch, Lynne says, is not just about giving—it’s about receiving. The rewards come in the form of smiles, small victories, and moments of connection that leave an indelible mark. Whether watching a child conquer their fear on the zip line or simply sharing a quiet conversation under the trees, she knows that each moment matters.
Lynne’s compassion, dedication, and unwavering belief in the power of nature make her an invaluable part of the Candlelight Ranch family. We are honored to celebrate her as our Volunteer of the Year and deeply grateful for the kindness and warmth she brings to every child, caregiver, and fellow volunteer she meets.
