Spring Break 2019
April 4, 2019
In partnership with the Upper Highland Lakes Nature Center, Candlelight Ranch was honored to host two weeks of Spring Break Camps, serving Austin Angles and the Burnett County Special Needs Community! Upper Highland Lakes Nature Center (UHLNC) donated both their time, volunteers and “Nature Trunks” to educate campers on the importance of our natural resources and the significance our Central Texas Native Species provide to our environment. Activities included edible & medicinal nature hikes, exploration of Native American heritage, Backyard Bass, lessons on fossils, fish and arts & crafts. Campers delighted in making bird feeders and planting bean seeds to take home in homemade paper pots. Campers also participated in fishing, kayaking, zip-lining, horses, gardening, gaga ball and low ropes team building!
Spring Break Camps were a great time for our campers, their families and our volunteers. One Austin Angles parent summed up their visit at CLR by stating, “Thank you for giving my family such a positive experience. We loved every minute!” An UHLNC volunteer, Phil Wyde, expressed his joy for volunteering by saying “I may have to stop volunteering at CLR, my heart is getting two sizes too big.”
Thank you to all who made these camps possible especially to the Highland Lakes Service League for sponsoring our camp for the Burnett County Special Needs Community. To learn more about our Spring Break Partners, visit the links below!
