Candlelight Ranch Permanently Protected with Colorado River Land Trust
November 17, 2021
We are thrilled to announce that on Friday, October 22nd, 2021, Candlelight Ranch became part of the Colorado River Land Trust. This monumental accomplishment protects our special and pristine piece of the Texas Hill Country in perpetuity for future generations of Texans to enjoy. Congratulations to the Barr Families for their leadership and legacy gift of conservation.
In March of 2020, Randy and Don Barr decided to place a conservation easement on their 120 acres of land surrounding a deep-water cove on Lake Travis. Candlelight Ranch sits on a portion of this property. The Barrs chose the Colorado River Land Trust to be the Grantee of this Easement and oversee the protection and preservation of this unique parcel of Texas Hill Country for generations to come. A conservation easement is a voluntary, legal agreement that permanently limits uses of the land in order to protect its conservation values.
As part of the Colorado River Land Trust (CRLT), the Barrs will retain ownership and continue to care for the land, but it’s unique natural features have now been documented and will be monitored by the CRLT to continue to support outdoor activities, protect the native habitat, and offer scenic enjoyment in perpetuity.
The 120 acres can never be subdivided and building envelopes have been established that include existing buildings and future additions. No further development can occur outside of these envelopes, but care was taken to include areas for possible future buildings at specific locations so that Candlelight Ranch can continue to grow.
This step fulfills the Barr’s dream that the land will continue unchanged for generations to come. It also provides assurance that Candlelight Ranch and its supporters can continue to plan for the future and sustain programs and experiences for children and families of all abilities forever. We are so grateful to our co-founders, Don & Randy Barr and their families for their vision and support of Candlelight Ranch.
